A Few Other Distinctions

AWARDS/COMMENDATIONS:

  • Best Foot Forward–This brochure for Erickson Retirement Communities  received a gold medal Aster Award for healthcare marketing from Medical Healthcare Today.

  • Erickson Health website– Won a 2008 APEX (Awards for Publication Excellence).  I advised the client on the overall editorial structure for this site and wrote all the copy. I still contribute two sections every month:  the Health Tips and the interactive Test Yourself quiz section, both under Health 411. 

  • Good Health Starts Here–The health section of The Erickson Tribune, which I upgraded when I became Erickson's chief health writer in 2005. The March 2008 Tribune, in which my health stories are featured,  also won an APEX (Awards for Publication Excellence).

  • Arthritis Foundation recognition, Maryland Chapter–The article I wrote on Gout for The Erickson Tribune staggered the Chapter with callers seeking the Foundation's booklet on this topic; requests had to be steered for fulfillment to the national headquarters.

  • AWED (American Women's Economic Development)– Received a commendation for serving as a speaker at their 20th Anniversary Women in Business conference.  Among it's statements:  "You played a pivotal part in the rolling out of AWED's new programs and I appreciate your leadership."

OTHER CREDENTIALS

  • Teacher for over a decade, "Succeeding as a Magazine Writer," for Editorial Freelancers Association.

  • Lecturer at American Medical Writers Association, "Enhancing Your Website's Effectiveness" (one of several national conferences at which I've taught this class).
